Leave applications and on-call duty swaps |
Click here for the home page |
You can use this page to make diary requests for leave or to arrange swaps for on call duties.
Submitting a leave request does not give you permission to be on leave. You will be contacted when the office staff have determined whether your application can be granted.
Remember that there are various allowances and restrictions on the number of people away at any one time. If your request is urgent you might be better to discuss it with the office staff.
Please note that we require at least six weeks notice of any leave request. This includes annual leave, study leave and professional leave.
Five specialist registrars and three senior house officers are allowed to take leave within the same period. If you have any leave requests within the six-week time period it will be considered at the department's discretion taking into account the needs of the rota.
On-call duties include long day shifts, night shifts, and trauma list work in the afternoon and evening. Rotas for this work are published regularly and well in advance. From 13 February 2006, trainees wishing to take leave of any description will be responsible for arranging swaps of on call duty with their colleagues so as to maintain on-call coverage. All swaps must be notified to the office on a swap form that has been fully completed and signed by both trainees. In the absence of a properly-completed swap form, signed by both doctors, the trainee whose name appears on the published rota is responsible for working the shift. It is only possible to swap duties with a colleague who has previously worked on the type of shift that they will be covering. For obstetrics, we strongly expect that cover will first be arranged with other doctors attached on that particular block.
Applications for study leave must be submitted on paper and signed as resources are committed in support. You can make a provisional application here for the diary dates, before submitting the completed and signed application form. All applications for expenses, category 2 work, overtime payments and so forth must be submitted in writing on the appropriate paper form.
